Q:Imran in Surat Aale Imran – Who are they?

A: The name of the father of Prophet Moosa (as) & the father of Lady Maryam (as) was Imran.

Therefore, both the descendants of Prophets Moosa & Haroon (as) and the descendants of Lady Maryam (as), can be addressed as Aale Imran.

Lady Maryam & Prophet Eisa (as) and the spouse of Imran both can be addressed as Aale Imran.
The era gap between the two Imrans is 1800 years.

In the Holy Quran Aale Imran has been mentioned just once,
In other ayat Maryam bint Imran has been mentioned but not for Prophet Musa (as).

And the verses talk about the life of Maryam & Jesus (as) in detail.

Allama Tabatabai of Tafseer al Mizan is of the opinion that Aale Imran may be Lady Maryam Jesus and Imran (as).

Other opinions:
Aale Imran are part of Aale Ibrahim, as the Almighty states, part of their descendants are from others.

«ذُرِّیَّةً بَعْضُها مِنْ بَعْضٍ»؛
So, Aale Imran are Musa & Haroon (as) and the sons of Imran.

The lineage of Imran is:

Imran … son of
Yashar … son of
Fahit … son of
Lawi … son of
Yaqoob (as)

So, Aale Imran are Maryam & Jesus (as). Imran is Maryam’s father in the ayat and not Musa’s father (as).
«وَ مَرْیَمَ ابْنَتَ عِمْرانَ الَّتی‏ أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَها فَنَفَخْنا فیهِ مِنْ رُوحِنا…»
«فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْها قالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّی وَضَعْتُها أُنْثى…»

Aale Imran are also the adherents, believing Momineen connected to Imran.

Some riwayaat state,
Aale Imran is AmirulMomineen Ali (as) as AbuTalib (as) is known as Imran in the Torah.

Furthermore, all Prophets and Infallible Imams (as) from the descendants of Imran are known as Aale Imran.
